The new CD project..... we have 6 songs recorded in various states of production. The final product will contain 12-13 songs. I've spent the last 3 months writing and recording rough demos of additional material. Two new songs stand out.... one called "Learning To Live", the other called "Can't Stop". The project is coming along nicely, and we are taking our time with the craftsmanship. After all, there really is no great hurry. :-)

Depending upon the European deal, we are talking about putting together a unit to play a few select venues in NYC, Boston, and Vermont. Loose plans include New England drummer / producer Hirsh Gardner behind the kit, Andre Maquera (8084) playing guitar, and possibly a well-known bass player and keyboardist from the Boston area. The mini-tour would take place concurrently with the release of the album both here in The States and in Europe. We'll keep you posted.

Peace to all.
Randy

Back to work....

After a much needed 10-day beach vacation with my family, I am back to work on the CD. We discovered a quaint little beach community called Pawley's Island off the coast of South Carolina. Of course we had to make a visit to the Hard Rock Cafe in Myrtle Beach where a good time was had by all ( photo of Savannah and I ). The management was great to us and we look forward to another visit soon.

While I was gone, Hirsh connected with Andre to lay guitar tracks to one of my songs "Shelter Me". And what a job Andre did! The tracks sound great with multiple guitar textures creating a modern, hard rock feel to the song. Now it's my turn to re-track the lead vocals. Thanks Al! (Andre)

Gotta get back to work now.

New Song and other tidbits

I have a 6th song (not a Sixth Sense) that is almost ready to track titled "Thunder & Lightning". The song is a mid-tempo tune using the weather metaphor, that in between major and meaningful occurrences in our lives is a calm and a place to change, grow, and reflect. It's interesting ( and sometime bizarre ) what you can come up with for ideas at midnight. :-)

Additionally Hirsh and I have spoke this week about contacting old friend Bob St. John to mix the final project. We worked with Bob as he engineered the first 8084 album and 1/2 of the second. Since that time Bob has gone on to work with such artists as Collective Soul, Duran Duran, and Extreme. It would be a hoot to make this happen.... I'll keep you posted.

Hirsh also has mentioned having keyboardist Jimmy Waldo provide some keyboard parts on some of the tracks. Jimmy is Hirshs' old bandmate from New England and also played with Alcatrazz, Yngwie Malmsteen, Graham Bonnet, and Steve Vai.

I am extremely excited about the project. Now I have to go back to work and lay down some tracks.

Cheers!
Randy

New CD update

Wow... I really need to keep up on entering info in here.. :-)

The writing and recording for the new CD is coming along well. We are still shooting for a release of the CD by this winter. We now have 5 songs tracked and in various stages of development. Working with Hirsh is always a pleasure... he has such a nice feel for vocal and instrumental arrangements. Not to mention he is a wonderful drummer.

I have also connected with old friend and musician extraordinaire Bill DeSanty from Massachusetts. Bil and I played together in our teens and he has now moved on to becoming an accomplished music teacher. We hope to have Bill play drums on at least one track on the CD, along with the possibility of recording one of his songs that we will co-write together. Either way, it's been a joy connecting with you again Bill!

The current songs are as such:

1. Bittersweet - ( a groove type rocker with a retro B-3 keyboard pad behind it)
2. Shelter Me - ( straight-ahead rocker....another from our "Heartland" collection)
3. All My Life - ( keyboard-based ballad with nice guitar work.... I couldn't help but let a bit of Sam Cooke-Steve perry get into my vocal track for this one.)
4. Yesterday - (A song inspired by a woman that had lost her son in the Iraq war....Hirsh has given the background vocals a nice Brian Wilson - Beach Boys type of treatment)
5. Everything You Want - ( interesting slower tune with colors added from guitars..)

I'll keep you updated as we proceed.

A couple of things we are kicking around.....

1. A video for one of the songs...TBD
2. A few live dates in NYC and Boston with Hirsh playing drums and other players on guitar, keys and bass.
3. Having old friend and engineer Bob St. John do the final mixing of the CD.
4. A new website that will be unveiled with the release of the CD.

That's all for now. Over and out. And thanks for all your support!
Randy

It's late... but, I feel great. :-)

We now have 15-16 new song ideas ready for pre-production for the CD. I'm in the process of putting them on "tape" to send up to my producer in Boston, Hirsh Gardner. From there he'll rip apart the songs, throw out the weaker ones, and tell me what to do from there. The cream of the crop will begin to be re-arranged by Hirsh, and then we'll begin laying the real tracks for the CD.

I see there was a tremendous amount of snow that fell in my old state of Vermont yesterday and today. Although I miss seeing a bit of the white stuff, I certainly don't miss driving in it!

Hope you are all well. Thanks for checking in! And don't be afraid to leave a comment!!!

Peace,
Randy
